A must see. The amazing Xaviera Simmons (former Public Art Fund artist!) Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at MoMA.

momatalks:

On Monday, artist Xaviera Simmons started a series performative actions at MoMA. As part of her project, Archive as Impetus, Xaviera and others present images and perform texts from MoMA’s history with politics.  From feminism to Occupy Museums,  Xaviera draws a line of MoMA’s political narrative from its inception in 1929 to today.

You can see Xaviera in the Gund Lobby from 11-4pm on Mondays, in the Sculpture Garden on Thursdays at 3 and 4pm, and finally on Friday in and around the museum through June!  Free with museum admission.

Love this. In case you didn’t know, we are very big Sol LeWitt fans.

In a new episode from the Exclusive series, artist Robert Mangold recalls memories of his good friend, artist Sol LeWitt—whom he first met when they were both security guards at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art in the early 1960s—explaining how both LeWitt and his experience at MoMA influenced his approach to making art.
